Step 1: What is a Child Protection Policy or Procedure?

A Child Protection Policy or Procedure relates to the standards and policies that organisations develop to protect children from both intentional and unintentional harm. This means that you not only develop a specific Child Protection Policy, but also that you integrate the safety of children in other processes and policies of your youth group.

In this toolkit, we follow the 11 standards as developed by a consortium of international non-governmental organisations (Iyouth groups) in partnership with the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) and which follows the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
